Self Talk

Our self talk can be constructive or destructive and as we progress through our day, whether we are alone or in company, we are forming opinions, we are answering asked and unasked questions, predicting there outcome, we have imaginary conversations and arguments, we go over old situations in our minds, all self talk. According to Shad Helmstetter in his book "What to say when you talk to yourself" It is estimated by Behavioural Psychologists that as much as 77% of what we think or talk to ourselves about on a regular basis is negative. That is to say that we are criticising, condemning, complaining, ridiculing and generally bringing ourselves down with our habitual thoughts.
Of course not all programming has led to limiting beliefs; we have been told how well we've done, received congratulations and been rewarded, all be it, judged by or compared to someone else's standards and what they believed was best for us. Such encouragement has motivated us to new challenges and led us to excel at many things increasing our confidence in many areas and assisting us to attain new levels of achievement.
Most people know when something has to change in their lives but very few are aware that they have the internal power to adopt and embrace new ways of doing things, which essentially begins with new thinking. Limiting beliefs and old conditioning are at the very core of the problem. Unfortunately most people are likely to externalize their challenges and blame someone or something in their environment. Whilst this is extremely easy to do, it serves no purpose in the long term. Lack of fulfillment and feelings of being trapped bring many unwanted side effects such as anxiety and stress. Challenges have to be weighed up and put under the microscope to decide if it would be better to carry on, encumbered with a life out of kilter or if it would be worth trying something new as a shot in the dark.
Recognition of these learned limits and unhealthy practices is key to gaining clarity and accepting personal responsibility, with a view to travelling a more fulfilling path on the way to a self defined and independent future.

Alpha/Theta, Utilize What You've Got!

It's been mentioned many times recently by clients and audiences that quite a few people suffer from lack of sleep, they frequently turn backwards and forwards during the course of the night, thoughts of the day ahead and what needs to be achieved. They reference the day that's just passed, analysing meetings, discussions and points of view, maybe if I'd said this or done that etc.
Keeping yourself awake in this manner is incredibly counterproductive, it is stressful, it leaves you feeling jaded, it does not solve anything, it can make things worse.
My suggestion, which I hope you will follow is this:
Upon waking in the middle of the night, your body is still lethargic, your brainwave frequency is still slow somewhere between 5-14 cycles per second. You are between daydream state and light sleep, this is considered to be a fantastic time to add new ideas into your mind, positive ideas. An ideal time to recite your positive goals and programme them deep into the subconscious part of your mind. The left logical, reasoning part of your mind is not as alert and less likely to present any sustainable argument, which it certainly would in Beta Waves or wide awake state.
So next time you wake and decide to stress yourself out, stop and think about achieving your GOALS by constantly repeating them as affirmations to yourself, and I assure you, you will soon be back in the land of nod with the added benefit of your desires, hopes and dreams being subliminally dropped into the realms of your subconscious.

In the beginning

It's been over 10 years since I started this particular chapter of my life, a chapter that has brought many changes, most created consciously, some attracted subconsciously.
Let me explain:
I had to change, I knew I wanted something more from life as opposed to what I was receiving or creating back then. I was stressed, anxious, angry and irresponsible, every one else was to blame for any and all my predicaments and challenges. My mind was in a whirl, no direction and absolutely no idea how to get there.
Change came in stages and still does, it's a lifetime journey, not a weekend event. Most people want instant results, they want a dream to come true, a desire, an outcome, to be, do, and have something that they currently are not being, doing or having, and are prepared to just dream ocassionally until the left logical reasoning side of the brain raises it's doubtful voice and interjects with all the negative reasons in the world "why" you can't. It takes commitment of thought, it requires brain training, it means raising awareness, it means self study, it means constant feedback and learning.
Is it worth it? Personally, I wouldn't go back to my old "stinking thinking" habits, I love the new life outlook and perspective that I have, I love the endless possibilities, the opportunities, the learning, the feedback. I love the renewed confidence, higher self-esteem, I love the new friends I've met along the way.
Most of all, I love the opportunity to communicate my lessons and experiences to help others overcome their life challenges and embrace limitless possibilities of their own.
If there is one piece of advice I could offer to anyone thinking that there is something more to life but they do not know where to start, it is this. "Your success in life is not based upon what has happened in the past but what can happen in the future" Unknown.
Your life is just that, your life, to do with as you wish, encumbered only by your own limitations.

Excerpt from "Embracing The Law Of Repetitive Contemplation"

I don’t wish to be defeatist or pessimistic so early on in this workbook but experience has taught me that a very large proportion of those who attend Coaching workshops or attend Personal Development seminars rarely stay the course. Staying the course means affecting change and taking action, sometimes over long periods of time, in fact if truth be told over a lifetime.

Many authors, speakers and presenters make big claims and promise to change your life in 7 days, or offer you the most amazing 21 day secret that will unleash your power and catapult you toward the life of your dreams, with cash galore and all the trappings of wealth and status. It’s little wonder that many people feel deflated and look upon themselves as failing when the promises of the package fail to deliver.

I’m not saying don’t dream or think big or search for a better life or approach to life, far from it, I’m advocating that you take all these tools, techniques, modalities, books, seminars and workshops and get committed to action. Consistent, persistent action based on what you have learned.

It does not need to be massive steps or great big leaps of faith. It can be simple, believable realistic steps, so long as you are taking action to affect your changes.

I’m going to partner you through this book and assist you to take forwarding action which is right for you and you alone. Everyone at their own pace. So avoid comparing how you are progressing, it will only weaken you if you share with someone who likes to bite off great big lumps of achievement. There is no right or wrong, just different choices.

Failure way to Success

I know it's hard and very difficult to understand but yes we do have to sometimes get it wrong on our way to getting it right. Seems like a catch 22, especially if your mindset is structured to believe that making mistakes is not a good thing.
Personally, I've made many mistakes and taken some painful wrong turns in my life to date, I would honestly say, yes it is difficult and there have been times when I feel like giving up ever trying anything again. It must be said however, that I don't think I can stop trying the new and unknown, no matter how challenging.
Giving way to the worry and anxiety which rises from standing still, accepting and tolerating what life throws at you and succumbing to lifes twists and turns, and becoming reactionary to life as opposed to creating and building your own destiny also takes guts, some people are happy this way.
Unfortunately the majority of lifes complainers are the very ones who sit back and "wait for God" while bemoaning their lack of fulfilment. Harsh? yes, but that's my experience.
Truth is, we're always off course seeking feedback, just like an airplane. It's our choice if we want to fly or not.

Our insatiable desire to beat ourselves up.

I work with people from many backgrounds, male, female, black, white, tall, thin, small, and on and on. There is something that comes through constantly, even with the most self assured clients. We have the most amazing capacity to berate ourselves and beat up on ourselves in the most glorious and ingenious ways.
We don't congratulate or praise ourselves on the good, we move on too quick, we do't go back there to our good achievements for support or help or to look at how well we've done in the past, get feed back from the positives or build new ways forward, we just focus on the bad which is illusory and fleeting, temporary. If I was to say anything it would be for gods sake give yourself an even break lay off, you wouldn't treat some of your "enemies" like that.
It all stems from learned behaviours when you were young. Never being praised or complimented when we behaved or achieved something, but immediately criticized when we stepped just slightly out of line.
If you are a parent reading this, please, please realise the importance of your words when directed at your own kids or any one elses for that matter.

Words That Change Lives

I've been asked for this by so many people that I thought I might just post it here for all to see and enjoy.

Stand before me on the sign of infinity
All you of the earth.
With the granting of the law of provination
Comes the application of change.
I will give you the key.

And with this knowledge, please realise,
Comes the responsibility of sharing it.
I will show you the way
It’s very simple.

Throughout the Universe there is order...
In the movement of the planets, in nature and in the functioning of the human mind.
A mind that is in its natural state of order, is in harmony with the Universe.
And such a mind is timeless.

Your life is an expression of your mind.
You are the creator of your own Universe.
For as a human being, you are free
To will whatever state of being you desire through the use of your thoughts and words.
There is great power there...
It can be a blessing or a curse; it's entirely up to you.
For the quality of your life is brought about by the quality of your thinking...
Think about that.

Thoughts produce actions...
Look at what you are thinking.
See the pettiness and the envy and the greed and the fear and all the other attitudes
That cause you pain and discomfort.
Realise that the one thing you have absolute control over is your attitude...
See the effect that it has on those around you.
For each life is linked to all life,
And your words carry with them chain reactions, like a stone
That is thrown into a pond.

If your thinking is in order,
Your words will flow directly from the heart,
Creating ripples of Love.
If you truly want to change your world, my friend, you must change your thinking.
Reason is your greatest tool,
It creates an atmosphere of understanding,
Which leads to caring, which is love.
Choose your words with care.
Go forth...with Love.

narrated by Sir Lawrence Olivier (as timelord)

365 ways to avoid personal development © A humorous look at Mind, Body and Spirit

Mind, body and spirit books, personal development books and self help titles that guarantee change or offer some kind of plan for building a new life, books that offer tools and techniques even tried and trusted methods of timeless wisdom have to be considered anathema and contrary to your established and relied upon course for imbalance and lack of fulfilment. If you are really serious about avoiding constructive and positive change, it might be better to avoid bookshops and libraries completely, sometimes titles are cunningly disguised to lure you into believing it's easy like you just have to "Think and Grow Rich" or you can "Change Your Life in Seven Days".

What's the upside to keeping everything as it is?

Last week I asked "What's the downside to getting everything you want? This week I'm asking "What's the upside to keeping everything as it is?
You can avoid organising for the future.
You can continue to procrastinate.
You can continue to blame external circumstances (government, spouse, friends)
Continued inaction.
You can get to laze around.
No need to apply yourself.
Stay within your comfort zone.
No need to meet new people.
Don't need to think too hard.
Keep same habits etc.
Have another close look at this question and pay attention to what surfaces for you. For many people, I can guarantee that lurking underneath, in unexamined thought, there are countless reasons to remain exactly as you are.
Once again it is only by bringing these thoughts to the surface and adding light to them that you can take action to move by them and initiate steps toward your bigger goals and dreams.

What's the downside to getting everything you want?

It's widely known that many people are afraid of failure and will ditch many of their hopes and dreams because they fear failure and all that accompanies it. Loss of respect, loss of dignity, loss of self confidence and belief, loss of money, starting over again and on and on.
What many people fail to realise is that an incredibly large percentage of folk suffer from a fear of SUCCESS and all that it means. When I talk about this subject with Coaching Clients or in a Workshop situation, there are often gasps of disbelief and shakes of heads. It can be a challenge to prove this point but not impossible.
Everyone, at least on the surface, would say that they are more than ready to embrace success and all that it brings, but are they?
One single limiting belief about success is all it takes to derail the grandest plans. One single negative subconscious thought about succeeding is all it takes to have you continually treading the mill and repeating the same process over and over again. Only you can decide what success means in each area of your life, relationships, money, career, health etc all have your own personal perspective and as such only you can declare what you want or wish to be, do or have in each.
Here is one way to uncover the blockage and unearth some new thinking.
Ask yourself  "What is the downside to having everything the way I want it?"
Don't just gloss over this question, really think it through, then you will find one or more reasons why you may be finding it difficult to achieve your SUCCESS.
eg I'll have to work harder
My friends won't like me
He''ll think I'm being selfish
Not enough time
People will take advantage of me
I'll lose control
I need to be different and change etc
Once these thoughts are brought to the surface and you are aware of them, then it's time to eliminate them by carefully undermining them and creating new affirmitive, supportive thoughts which will enable you to move in the direction of your Goals more freely.

Successfully Failing

A successful Bank President about to retire was interviewed by the media and was asked
"To what do you owe your great success?"
He thought for a moment and answered "That's easy really, it was all down to good decisions"
The interviewer proceeded and asked "What were your good decisions based on?"
The Banker pondered for a moment and said "I put it down to the wisdom gained from experience mostly"
The interviewer pressed for more and asked "Where did that expeience come from?"

The Banker replied quickly and in an instant and said "That's easy to answer. Bad decisions"

So it should be with life. Too many times we get a bad result and feel as though we've failed, our confidence takes a dent and we give up too quickly, our hopes and dreams die and we settle for second best.
We didn't learn to accept failure as a means to learning and improving, we tend to accept defeat in a venture too readily instead of using the feedback to adjust and build toward our chosen outcome.
Failure, as I see it, is a degree of success, part of the journey on a great big learning curve.

"Defeat in a venture should be regarded as a challenge, just as an obstacle should be seen as a disguised opportunity. Adversity should make us even more determined to succeed." Unknown

365 ways to avoid personal development © A humorous look at Mind, Body and Spirit

Avoid GOAL SETTING. University studies carried out in the 1970s by Harvard University showed that students who set goals were 97% more likely to attain them than those who did not. Once again it seems very clear that if you stick with the decision to avoid personal growth or self improvement then goal setting is taboo.
Lewis Carroll's words are to be remembered here "If you don't know where you're going any road will get you there", stick with this adage, it is a quote that should never be far from your thoughts.
Some of the greatest achievers and thinkers of our time new that goal setting could bring about change, but they had lots of spare time on their hands.
Goal Setting is a very cruel way of keeping you focused and preoccupied with something that's never going to happen. It was devised to annoy and distract us from Eastenders and X-Factor . If you wish to set goals of any kind this should be restricted to organising the minutiae of family holidays or shopping trips.
Always focus on what you don't want, do not focus on Goals, hopes, dreams or aspirations for any length of time this could lead to subconsciously drawing your goals to you and create unwanted change.
For the most part, allow all your thoughts free unchallenged reign to govern your actions and responses, this way you can carry on blindly into the undefined future.

365 ways to avoid personal development © A humorous look at Mind, Body and Spirit

Stay seperate. Always identify with the false mind made self, the ego part which encourges you to judge, blame, defend and criticise. It is of great importance that you listen intently to ego driven thoughts to increase that connection and identification with the false self and further entrench your mind in incessant opinionated chatter.
This will keep you occupied for enormous portions of your day, arguing, condemning and comparing, making judgements about others based on what you perceive to be irritating or just plain wrong.
"He is driving like an idiot."
"She's a terrible Mother."
"Her manners are despicable."
"They did this to me."
You can clearly see the necessity of this preoccupation with thought, it allows you to avoid looking within at the space between thought, where the present exists as being or awareness or presence.

365 ways to avoid personal development © A humorous look at Mind, Body and Spirit

It is widely stated that you become what you think about all day long. Therefore as a sure fire way to avoid change and any kind of personal growth in the future, it would be wise and indeed necessary that you do not raise your awareness of current thinking patterns. Your present circumstances and environment, whether good or bad, have been brought about by previous thinking and choices and actions based on those thoughts. So it is incumbent upon you to avoid "watching" your thoughts or "listening" to them in order that you can maintain the status quo of leaving all your creativity, imagination and constructive reasoning to conditioned responses.

365 ways to avoid personal development © A humorous look at Mind, Body and Spirit

It is said that "You become like the 5 people you spend most of your time with". This being the case, to ensure non development, growth or change of any kind, always mix with like minded individuals who have no sense of vision or passion for life. Insist on making negative types your bed mates. This way you'll have a ready made group who can say the right thing at the right time just to keep you in place in case you get dreamy ideas above your station. Remembering todays watch phrase at all times "Individual thought or imaginative creativity will set you up for a fall, be safe, just fit in".

365 ways to avoid personal development. A humorous look at Mind, Body and Spirit.

When sleep does not come easy at night, when you find yourself replaying the events of the past day over and over and you turn your focus to the day and week ahead, beginning to get anxious about what may or may not happen. It is essential to have laser like precision, and focus intentionally without interruption at the endless negative possibilities. You must occupy the mind wholly with thoughts of worry, negativity and fear of what the future holds.
At no point should you calm your mind and change focus bringing thoughts of positive possibilities.

What do you expect in return?

If you carry anger and resentment, what do you expect in return?
If you are critical and judgemental, what do you expect in return?
If you provide cynicism and suspicion, what do you expect in return?
If you show contempt and disrespect, what do you expect in return?
If you are mean and spiteful, what do you expect in return?
If you harbour envy and jealousy, what do you expect in return?
If you offer apathy and indifference, what do you expect in return?
If you assume scarceness and lack, what do you expect in return?
If you lack direction and purpose, what do you expect in return?

If you carry love and understanding
If you give praise and compassion
If you have purpose and vision
If you bring relief and charity
If you show manners and courtesy
If you are caring and just
If you offer support and nurture
If you assume abundance and plenty
If you embrace life with all vigour
If you reach out to all others

What might you expect in return?

One step at a time Walking Workshops

I consider myself very lucky that I have eventually found work that really inspires me and gets me fired up and passionate. I spent many years doing work that was slowly killing me from the inside out, mentally and physically. I know what it's like to feel trapped and pressured into continuing the slog.
I worked hard to make changes and now I help others make their changes and life transformations, either through Coaching or Speaking at Workshops. I love to inspire "Change" in its many forms. Clients may have Career challenges or Relationship problems and more often than not Money issues.
On many occassions the client just needs an objective question at the correct time to unravel the myriad of previously unchallenged thought processes.
However, years of experience has taught me that not everyone enjoys being Coached One to One and sometimes clients enjoy the anonimity of a group where they can accustom themselves to the Coach and the Process, allowing them the freedom to commit to Coaching as and when they chose and in the manner they chose.
One such vehicle is our "One step at a Time" Walking Workshop which has been an incredible success for just this reason. Getting outdoors and exercising your body and mind for 2 hours with cross lateral movements is both energising and invigorating. The Coaching element of the walk is designed to provoke new ways of thinking and raise awareness of possiblities and inspire positive change.
Our next 2 walks are fully booked with 8 attendees on each, one will be held in Drumpellier Country Park next weekend and then Pollok Country Park the weekend after. Our fervent hope is that the weather is good.

What would you change?

It's taken some time to get everything organised and really feel that I'm giving my all to my passion of assisting others to live full and self empowered lives, free from the restriction of labels, limiting beliefs, judgements, ego driven insanity and all manner of mind games, self invoked or cast.
This is all I ever wanted, all I ever dreamed of, but was not aware of for many years. My early life was spent in the East End of Glasgow learning not to expect too much. Keep your head down, don't upset the apple cart, be seen and not heard, big boys don't cry and money doesn't grow on trees etc. The media also play an incredible part in our perception of self, I learned from an early age that "I was not meant to succeed", "I was under priviliged", "I came from a deprived area". Not one of these statements, and countless others throughout the years is true, unless I give them truth.
The false mind made self that we call "I" or "me" needs examined in order to uncover the genius within. We all have it, we are sometimes unaware of it.
I offer myself, my family and friends and my clients my genius, my light.

Sincerely, Allan

Contraction and Expansion

Contraction and Expansion
I've slowed down recently on all fronts including work, It seems that there are many things to be done and much is needing attended to, but I'm enjoying the pace at present and to be quite truthful I think it has released a lot of stress which had built up over the past year. I've been non stop and pushed myself tirelessly to get ahead.
This may be the calm before the storm because I have many plans in the pipeline for the coming year and I'm very excited about that.
The recent lull has provided time to read up and catch up on many of my interests, it has also allowed me time to meditate, programme and goal set. Too much external stimulation in the business world had resulted in not enough internal care and time to soothe and nurture my mental ethos.
It feels like a period of contraction which will lead to expansion and I am thrilled at the prospect.
